“Els nens i nenes del barri”

The main objective with this proect is to ease access to culture and contemporary art for the schools in the museum’s neighbourhood.

Through diferent activities happening in the MACBA Museum, girls and boys líving in the Raval neighbourhood bwetween ages 9 and 12 and artists ive a collective experience in an elàstic area, open to imagination and with no fear of breaking the rules.

During the 2022-2023 school year, 6th Edition of the Programme, we counted with Marc Larrés’ collaboration, with his proposal “Entrar por fuera”, in search of a new meaning referring to the concept of a traditional museum.

Based on play and experimentation, children distanced themselves from what is conventional and lived MACBA “outside of the box”, forgetting about the idea of what a museum is expected to be, as far as ideas of shape and structurre, being in silence and observing but not interacting with what is displayed.

Just like that, they exchanged this idea for a new conception of a museum space, free of judgement and generator of communities, where artistic pieces can be found in a kitchen, in the halls, ramps, warehouses or even toilettes.

“Grup de joves”

In 2022, MACBA extended its education programme with the neighbourhood, creating a new workshop for young people over the age of 12.

The objective for the “Grupo de Jóvenes” is to experiment with all the ways museum spaces can be occupied or travelled. The first edition, which took place during the 2022-2023 school year, was supported by artist Anna Irina Russell and her proposal “Hacer el Puente”. The goal was to encourage the teenagers to search for  strategies to look, be and engage with the museum and their surroundings, using their bodies and body Language through diferent dynamics and games.

Therefore, during the workshop, participants explored ways in which the spaces in MACBA Museum could be travelled, reflecting on and generating critical eye towards monitoring systems and their control over both bodies and information.
